CRASHDÏET Drummer On New Album 'Rust': 'We Had The Time To Do It The Way We Wanted To'
Following CRASHDÏET's performance at the recent HRH Sleaze III festival in Sheffield, United Kingdom, drummer Eric Young spoke with Dawn of TotalRock Radio. The full conversation can be seen below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On the group's former singer, Olli Hermann (a.k.a. H. Olliver Twisted), joining the band during its set:
Eric: "That was a surprise. We obviously knew that he was going to play tomorrow with RECKLESS LOVE, but we didn't know that he was going to be here today. I saw him post on Instagram, like, 'Hey, Sheffield. We're here,' so I just messaged him, like, 'Hey, dude. You can't escape this. We have to do this.' He was totally on. It was so much fun."
On the group's new album, "Rust":
Eric: "It's an album we've been working on for a couple years. We've been out of the loop for a while. We played some shows last year, but it's been a while since the last album, so we really had time to really do this at the pace that we wanted do it. To be honest, that's really what we set out to do — no pressure, no dates. There's always these stressful plans — 'Okay, let's do this. We have an album at this date, and then we have a tour, blah blah blah,' and then you end up having the most stressful time of your life when you notice the release date is, like, tomorrow, and I haven't written any songs. Not that bad, but you get the point. This time, we had the time to just do it the way we wanted to. We recorded it completely ourselves and produced it completely ourselves. We had some collaborations with some people — some friends of ours. Eric Bazilian of THE HOOTERS, he's a friend, and he lives in Stockholm... We wrote some songs together. Chris Laney mixed the album, who was co-producing the first album, 'Rest In Sleaze'. It's fun just to involve friends that you know will make it a sweeter product."
On the group's recently-released music video for the album's title track:
Eric: "We always wanted to one of those videos where you just go all-in, with fire, with drums flying around, taking all these cool pictures. We had the opportunity to do that with a friend that has all this magical equipment, so we finally got to do that. I think it came out really well. [Guitarist] Martin Sweet actually edited that video."
On the group's upcoming plans:
Eric: "We're doing a [U.K.] tour with SKID ROW, which is really cool. Being SKID ROW, I don't need to say anything more about that. SKID ROW is SKID ROW, so that's going to be really cool."
CRASHDÏET will release "Rust", its fifth studio album (and first with new singer Gabriel Keyes), on September 13.
“Well," said Pooh, "what I like best," and then he had to stop and think.
Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there
was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than
when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.”
