I dont think so, I think he had this band in mind long before, and he just needed guys, so he came up with these boys. And look they stayed 3 years together. When you depend on how important the music was for dave (at least I think it was) then you can imagine that he dont wanted to waste 3 years only with jamming...
I've looked at this picture so many times without noticing this one special detail... This probably is a picture (indirectly) of the OLD DÏET. And the picture is a proof that there actually was t-shirts made for the old dïet. Just check out Dave's t-shirt, It says "Crash Dïet" Just like Mary Goore of the Old Dïetist's said. And it's a different logo. I'm pretty sure that the band on the t-shirt is the Old Dïet.
